We had a dream … and it took us 3 years to find out the perfect place to realize our project. The domain was old, the previous owners lived in a part of it, and it really needed to be restored…
Yvan and I arrived on the mas on December 23rd 2013 with only two suitcases. We had our family Christmas dinner in front of the fire place with borrowed kitchen equipment and dishes, in an uncomfortable part of the mas but it didn’t matter!! All our furniture, dishes,… still were in the storage in Versailles.
It certainly was the « biggest » Christmas gift I’ve never received in my whole life.
The first workers arrived in beginning January 2014, to cut the huge steel tanks in the vineyard cave which hasn’t been used for 12 years. The domain dates back to the middle ages, with lots of grain and vegetable fields being replaced in 1850 by a vineyard, abandoned for more than 10 years. On January 26th 2014, our team of workers started to restore the mas. Everybody worked very hard, and we feel very thankful for that. We all lived in very basic conditions, mobilhomes and caravans. February 2014 was cold and I was cooking big pots of vegetable and meat soup, and lots of cakes. It always was a pleasure to see the smiles on the faces when I was bringing my special treats! We shared lots of barbecues, and a glass of fantastic Languedoc wines were always welcomed.
Everything was finished on time, and by the end of July 2014 we had our first guests in 4 cottages, the pool and the spa. The same team came back on January 2015 to build the 5th cottage, the beautiful outdoor stone bar on the village place and the reception room. The working relationship has turned into a friendship with admiration and respect for each other.
And after that they came back for the last accommodation, and every year we added new activities in our domain, especially the vineyards, the organic growings and more to come ….
The restauration of the mas is beautiful, but the most important thing is this fantastic human adventure.

A fantastic family holidays
We stayed for 1 week at the end of August with our 2 year old and 7 year old boys. I can honestly say we all had a fantastic holiday. The kids club was fantastic and run by Katie and Wills. Katie would generally look after the younger kids whilst Wills took the older kids to play football, bike riding, swimming etc… The set up works really well as adults get free time. Generally families would gather in the bar area for evening drinks before having your meal. Maryse and Yvan are fantastic hosts and are constantly introducing new things based on feedback. The scenery is also very lovely. We stayed in chardonnay and it worked perfectly for us and had a ground floor terrace. We will def return as very rare to find the balance of happy kids, relaxed parents in nice accommodation and surroundings. Thank you Maryse and Yvan for a fantastic week and we hope to see you next year!
Another Great Holiday
We returned to Mas de Thau with our 4 year old son for our second visit. It was even better than the first. This time we went half board as it was high season. The food was amazing! For 4 nights we had a choice of two meals. One was child friendly and the other more ‘grown up’ option. The other nights were group eating affairs with the other guests in the bar area which was great fun and the nannies were on hand to amuse the kids. The nannies take fantastic care of the kids and go out of their way to make sure they are happy. The pool area is lovely, the perfect place to relax. Our son loved the shallow kids’ pool and all the various inflatables he had to play with. In the evenings we enjoyed walking round the site feeding the donkeys and goats and playing on the bouncy castle. Maryse and Yvan were once again amazing hosts. Nothing was too much trouble.
A truly wonderful holiday.
Amazing place to holiday! Wholeheartedly recommend.
This was truly an amazing place to stay and holiday. The Mas grounds and apartments are stunning, the food & wine delicious. My husband and I stayed in Picpoul with our 3 & 4 year old daughters and the gite was perfect. Maryse and Yvan are fantastic hosts, so welcoming. They even helped us celebrate our wedding anniversary during the week. Our daughters loved the Kids Club so much, they ran to it each morning & afternoon full of excitement. It allowed us to relax as they were having so much fun. The animals (especially the donkeys and dogs) added to the wonderful atmosphere.
I would absolutely book again.
